Kala Chana Chat (Garbanzo Mix)



Garbanzo Beans (Brown chickpeas) grows mostly in India.



Kala chana is an Indian name for garbanzo beans or brown chickpeas.






Kala Chana have a delicious nut like taste and a texture that is buttery, yet some what starchy and pasty.


They are high in iron content, rich in soluble and insoluble dietary fiber and very good source of protein.


Due to high fiber content and low GI, kala chana are excellent for weight loss diets.

Salad prepared with kala chana are tasty and can keep you full longer, controlling the appetite.


This can be served as a side dish, or salad, at any time.. We prefer to have this in morning time as breakfast dish. 

Required (for 6 servings)


✔Kala chana
250gms
✔Sprouted Mung
100gms (optional)
✔Onions
3 medium
✔Tomatoes
 2 medium
✔Potatoes
2 medium
✔Beatroot
 1 medium (optional)
✔Apple
 2 medium (optional)
✔Strawberries
 8-10 no. (optional)
✔Lemon
 1 no. 
✔Green Chilly
2 or as per your taste
✔ Red chilly Powder
as per your taste
✔Salt to taste
✔Coriander leaves
3-4 leaflets

Action

Step 1: Soaking of Kala Chana

Pick over beans and rinse in cool water. Put in a large bowl, cover with water by 2 inches, and soak for overnight.

Step 2: Boiling of Kala Chana

Next day wash the the brown chick peas with water. Add salt, and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles. Reduce the heat after 4th whistle and cook for 3-4 minute on slow flame. Switch off the heat. Allow the cooker to cool naturally. Take out the chick peas, drain all the water. Keep aside

Step 2: Boiling  Potatoes & Beetroot

Boil potatoes and beetroot separately in pressure cooker. Remove, peel the skin , finely chop and keep aside.

Step 3: Vegetables and Fruits Cutting.



✔Peel onions and finely chop them

✔Finely chop tomatoes

✔Peel apple skin, and finely chop them, apply few drops of lemon to avoid discoloration.

✔Chop strawberries

✔Finely chop green chillies

✔Finely chop coriander leaves.

Step 4: Toss all together & Serve


In a clean large bowl, add boiled chick peas, boiled & finely chopped potatoes, onions, apples, tomatoes,mung bean, beetroot,strawberries & green chillies.

Toss them and then add 1 tsp red chilly powder, lemon juice and salt to taste mix them well with a spatula. You can adjust spices and ingredients depending on your taste. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve the Chat in platter or a bowl.
