Today I am partaking in one of the most nutritious, delicious, easy to make and traditional recipe of drumsticks which is cooked with black peppercorns. This was one of the most favorite food of my grandpa.
Drumstick tree is called the "Power house of minerals" is the most common tree in India. Drumstick vegetable is best for bone health and also known as Poor Man's Bone's food.
My dad slipped in the bathroom, and badly hurt his back, it was hairline fracture, but the condition was so severe that he can't able to walk or move his upper body, the doctor suggested complete bed rest and as per the instructions we had ordered sliding bed on rent which is available in hospitals. That phase was one of the most difficult phase in our life. But with dad's willpower, medication's, care and prayers, all is well now.
The recipe which I will share now, was given to dad religiously three times a day before meal. And it actually worked. I don't want to give full credit to drumsticks, but I believe that really helped dad a lot in speedy recovery.
Drumstick scientifically called as Moringa oleifera. Ingredients required for drumstick vegetable recipe
- 4-5 drumsticks
- 1tsp coarsely crushed black peppercorns (or as per taste)
- 1tsp butter/ghee
- 400 ml water
Step by step process of preparing Sahjan ki Sabzi (Drumsticks in black pepper)
✒ Wash and scrape the drumsticks, chop them into finger length pieces of equal size.
✒ Place 3 cups water in saucepan and bring to boil.
✒ Add the drumsticks, butter, coarsely crushed peppercorns and salt to taste
✒ Simmer for 5-7 minutes or cook drumsticks until soft.
✒ Serve hot.
